OK seems like this is working right now. I have been having problems with this thing. The local cable company ran cable up the mountain (finally) but the dial-up service we have seems to have taken a dive. We will not see the cable operative untill May or June so Mom seems to beable to post , but I have been locking up every time I get on.

So to one and all HAPPY ST. PATRICK's DAY!

With a bit o luck I will beable to post after this.

Writting....

This is the results of the hand writing analysis that I found on Pepple Pies page....

You fill every waking moment with activity.
You are a shy, idealistic person who does not find it easy to have relationships, especially intimate ones.
You are affectionate, passionate, expressive, and future-oriented.
You are a talkative person, maybe even a busybody!
You enjoy life in your own way and do not depend on the opinions of others.

Well, Mom?

Support VETMARCH2006 ! Help our veterans get shat was promised to them! Lets keep the disabled in mind and help them cope.

VETMARCH 2006

This is still the big issue here. No matter what your politics Vets deserve to have the promises made delivered! Take a carfull look around you today and decide if things would be different if nobody had answered the call to duty. Would you beable to do the things you do, or say the things you say?  I know the answer, I've been to a lot of places in the world.

Please support the VETMARCH 2006  If you can not attend in DC or in your capital consider making a donation so Vets that want to come but can't afford to can get a chance to make it.

                             Why a March?

                             2006 Press Release

A March will demonstrate that the veterans... are

ORGANIZED AND

"SPEAKING WITH ONE VOICE".

Why conduct a march in this manner?

The veterans of this Nation are truly professional people.  We understand determination, commitment, tactics, organization and survival.  We understand what it means to follow orders without question or hesitation.  We understand what it means to place unquestionable trust in those with whom you serve.  We, above all others in the Nation, understand that you must “fight” for what you believe to be right, and once you have achieved that goal, you must “fight” twice as hard to maintain it.

Please note that the videos on this web page demonstrate how our troops must  fight to receive benefits that the government promised them when they joined the military.

I would like people to see that veterans do not have support from the lawmakers in Washington D.C. when it comes time to provide promised health care and other benefits.

As you will read, on links within this web site, every year the Veterans Department does not have enough money to properly budget for our military veterans and it’s always an issue in Congress, each and every year.

Disabled veterans that become more disabled, i.e. 50% to 100% should receive the extra disability benefit within a few months because they can no longer work and support their families, but the government may take years to approve the funds for these individuals, some never get approved because they have died awaiting for a “piece of paper” and these benefits should have been approved within a few months but instead lawmakers save money by taking their time approving these disability claims because many of these veterans die in the meantime.

Additionally, the VA will not approve many of the claims even though they are legitimate claims with legitimate justifications.

I would like individuals to write, email or call their elected officials and asked that legislation for  “Mandatory Funding for VA Health Care”be enacted and that all benefits that are promised to our Troops are giving to them when the time comes for them to receive them.

A sad passing...

I am sorry to say that MominAmerica2 has thrown in the towel on her MSN blog. I still hold out hope that she will be able to continue, but, maybe it is time for a new direction.  This blog has gotten her through a lot of healing. She started it when she was going through radiation treatment for Hypo-Thyroid and has been her refuge for the past several months. To all of you who were there with her I thank you.

She will leave the site up and I suppose comments will keep working.

Thankyou all for your support of her.

Cheers,
Tom

Help!!

Why is this guy in jail?

Why is it that we think it is some how wrong for a father to defend his daughter?  As a father of a daughter I'd say the scumbag got off easy, I can hit pretty hard.  The headline is mis-leading in that the said aid wa accused of molesting SEVERAL daughters.  My opinion is this should happen more often.

Dad punches out teacher's aide accused of molesting daughter

By MITCH STACY
Associated Press
Posted January 25 2006, 3:00 PM EST

TAMPA -- An angry father who marched into a classroom and punched a teacher's assistant in the face said Wednesday he was protecting his 15-year-old daughter, who had accused the man of inappropriately touching her.

Dave F. Swafford, 42, was charged with felony battery on a school employee after he hit the 35-year-old aide in front of a class full of students at Lakewood Ranch High School near Bradenton Tuesday morning, authorities said. He was also named ``Father of the Year'' by a local radio station for his actions.

``I'm not real proud of what I did,'' Swafford told The Associated Press Wednesday. ``You have to protect your children, and my daughter does not lie to me.''

Because of the allegation, the school placed the assistant on paid leave Tuesday, school district spokeswoman Margi Nanney said. He has not been charged, but Manatee County Sheriff's Office spokesman Dave Bristow said deputies are investigating.

The man has been employed by the Manatee County school district since 1999 and has a clean personnel record, Nanney said. His primary job is ``time-out'' teacher, overseeing in-school suspension. His name is being withheld by the AP because he has not been charged.

Swafford, the part owner of an air conditioning company, said he came to the school to meet with officials about allegations made by his daughter and other female students about the assistant's inappropriate touching and conduct. When he saw that the man was not in the meeting, he asked his daughter to take him to the classroom.

``I wanted to know why the guy was in a classroom teaching after my daughter came forward,'' he said.

A verbal exchange became heated, and ``I lost control,'' he said. He spent about 10 hours in jail and got out later Tuesday after posting bond.

The Tampa radio station that named him ``Father of the Year'' offered him and his family tickets for the Daytona 500 race.

``If some other parents would do this, maybe some of these pedophiles would crawl back under rocks where they belong,'' Swafford said.

Armor All?
By Ralph Kinney Bennett : BIO | 17 Jan 2006

He fell thunderously, and his armor clattered upon him.
-- The Iliad, Lattimore translation.

Pfc. Steven Tschiderer fell thunderously when a high power round from a Dragonoff sniper rifle hit him in the chest.

But he got right back up (see video) thanks to his body armor.

He immediately took cover on the other side of a Humvee, spotted the silver van from which the sniper was firing about 230 feet away, and directed the other soldiers in his patrol to engage it.

A few minutes later, after a pursuit through the streets of western Baghdad, Pfc. Tschiderer, followed a blood trail to the man who had tried to kill him, lying wounded in a yard. Tschiderer, a medic with Troop E, 101st Cavalry Division, handcuffed the sniper and gave him preliminary treatment for his wounds.

This incident last June, recorded on tape by the terrorists who were trying to kill Tschiderer, has been played again and again on the Internet as a vivid example of how well U.S. troops’ body armor works. Indeed, body armor works so well that it may be one of the reasons for the extraordinarily low casualty rates in the Iraq War.

But the grim fact is, if that sniper had squeezed off his round at a moment when Pfc. Tschiderer was standing sideways to him, or had raised his barrel slightly and scored a head shot, the outcome of this incident would have been very different.

The fact that U.S. body armor is not fully protective from every conceivable angle -- like some force field around a soldier -- is not news to anyone who has served in combat. And snide, sinister-sounding articles about “secret studies” seem almost willfully ignorant of the fact that the U.S. military has long agonized over what additional improvements to the body armor could be made without compromising the mobility and fighting ability of the troops.

“Our body armor is not perfect,” notes Baghdad Guy, the blog name of an infantryman currently serving in Iraq. “But overall it does a remarkable job of protecting soldiers, marines and airmen and everyone else who wears it.”

The real armor problem, as this soldier and many others have been pointing out, is weight and restriction of movement. The fast-moving firefights and ambushes in Iraq, the building-to-building combat, puts a premium on rapid movement and a soldier’s ability to employ his weapons at every possible angle. Long patrols in intense heat when in “happy gear” exacts huge physical penalties.

“When I step out the gate,” says Baghdad Guy, “I am wearing on my person body armor, a Kevlar helmet, my M4 rifle with a few hundred rounds of ammunition, my M9 sidearm with another hundred rounds of ammunition, 2-3 quarts of water, a portable radio, night vision equipment, and numerous other odds and ends.”

He figures that “full combat load” adds more than 40 pounds to his weight “give or take a grenade.” But he’s probably on the low side. Estimates at James Dunnigan’s excellent Strategypage.com show that troops, operating in temperatures that frequently reach over 100 degrees, carry as much as 100 pounds of extra weight while engaging in the rigors of combat in Iraq.

After about 10 pounds of clothing (goggles, kneepads etc.) and 24 pounds of armor (current vest with ceramic plates and Kevlar helmet) other items add up fast -- at least 20 pounds of ammo, 12 to 15 pounds for grenades, rifle, bayonet, flashlight.

But this may all be just starters. If the soldier is part of a fire team, he and three others will be carrying 10 to 20 pounds of machine gun ammunition. Just standing around with all this weight is tiring, “but running around under fire, carrying 50-60 pounds is pretty common, and exhausting.”

As Baghdad Guy points out, “too much weight means a soldier moves slower, tires more easily, maneuvers less stealthily and spends more time feeling sorry for himself instead of focusing on the mission.”

Make no mistake, he’s all for optimum protection. “When someone designs an affordable lightweight polymer that allows for freedom of movement but can stop a 7.62mm round (kind of like the batsuit in Batman Begins), sign me up.”

But, as Capt. Jamey Turner, of Baton Route, La., currently with the 1st Squadron, 33rd Cavalry Regiment, in Iraq, told an Associated Press reporter “you’ve got to sacrifice some protection for mobility. If you cover your whole body with ceramic plates, you’re just not going to be able to move.”

From all my research in military history and from the hundreds of interviews I have done over the years with soldiers and Marines from World Wars I and II, Korea, Vietnam and Iraq, there is a picture that has frequently passed through my mind -- roads and battlefields littered with discarded equipment. Soldiers quickly -- and sometimes unwisely -- divest themselves of gear when they are in a fight. Combat is exhausting. Weight matters. And the fight usually goes to the more nimble. U.S. Special Forces units frequently fight with little or no body armor.

Another infantryman in Iraq, a certain Pfc. Keith Hayes, chimed in recently on the armor issue at the superb Blackfive.net, one of the best military blogs on the web. “Don’t try to weight me down with so much “protective” gear you get me killed because I can’t raise my weapon from the bulk, or die of heat stroke.”

Every soldier wants to be protected, but in the end they are paid to fight. As Baghdad Guy puts it, “At the end of the day, body armor protects the force, but capturing or killing insurgents before they attack us is what really saves lives. The best defense is a good offense.”

Random stuff

Yes MEGABRAD I met 007. So did Pixi and Mom.  Very fun filled party and a wonderful New Year!

I few days a go I saw an article on how the bullet proof vests used by the Marines was killing Mariens!?! Well, it was a piss poor title to say the least. The gist of the article was that there maybe better armor available. As I read on the article continued on about how the procurment system in the Pentagon is broken and corrupt, and about good "ole boys buying  infireior equipment all because some one has a job with what ever company.....blah, blah, blah. This article then proceeded to push for a much more expensive ($7000.00 per vest) with basically the same leval of protection with added side plates (already in the system for our current issue vest). Turns out the writer was a "friend" of the owner of the recomended company.  Kind of a self defeating push for a friend, reeks of the "good 'ole boy" gang.   So, having used flak vests ranging from the korean war modle with fiber glass plates (great for riot control) through the carboard filled vietnam flak, the balistic good for not much of the late 80's and 90's right up to the early version of the current, really is bullet proof, vest I got really disgusted. The current issue vest is a lot better then any of the proceeding issued flak vest. I witnessed an AK-47 hit the front plate of one at under 10 meters and it did NOT penetrate the plate. No death or injury sustained. Can improvements be made? Yes. A system of side plates, leg and arm protectores are being fielded. But don't forget that it all adds pounds and limits movement, so if you get involved in any close (real close) contact you loose mobility, thats what happened to the knight knocked off his horse, could not move fast enough against a lightly armored infantryman.  But in our 6 o'clock news mentality we miss that.  Spending more on equipment that is not a signifacant improvement should be considered very carefully and not emotionally.  Having been in Iraq I was, with a few exceptions, pleased with the vest I was issued.   My sons will deploy with even better vests and will hopfully see improvements, based on real action, made that will allow them to survive on the modern battlefield.

The other area I see alot of interference in is training. To survive in combat there are a lot a things that come into play. The most important is training. That is not to say that good leaders, good equipment and a lot of other factors are unimportatnt.  A well trained "sheep" can not only survive but take the fight to the enemy with violence of action that will move even a detrmined enemy.  I am sick of these pantywaists complaing because poor little Johnny (or Jane) were yelled at, or had to make a 25 mile hump with a 50 lb pack. And why do they have to do the confidence course, or learn to fight hand to hand?  Well people, its all about defeating the enenmy who has sworn to eliminate you. You expect Uncle Sugar to protect you but not to make your little priss feel upset.   Well I, as an NCO for many years want to train your son or daughter to SURVIVE initital contact and press the enemy and kill HIM. So if your to squeemish to understand what is at stake then please stay home and let the "sheepdogs" keep you safe from the "wolfs" at your door. I don't understand you and you don't understand me or the wolf, but I do understand the wolf and he understands me. I have the best interest of these young men and woman at heart when I yell at them and make them do seemingly stupid things. They have my back in combat and I have thiers, thats a lot of motivation to have well trained and well diciplined soldiers.

Cheers,
Tom

Harry

Harry:

Quick with a smile or a joke.

Wanted to talk about the kids and wife, he loved them!

Many hours sitting and talking about home and plans, new addition to the house, vacations, food, always about family.

A good man!

Proud of what he had achieved and what he was going to achieve in life.

A good soldier!

"Hey, ‘Pelooloo!, How DO you say your first name?"

"Don’t worry, it means ‘Harry’."

So, I called him "Harry or "Pelooloo".

He was a friend.

He is missed.

Vacation Time

So its been a while since I posted. Thats because I am on vacation (unexpected, I forgot that I had put in for this week) and #2 Son has been home. We have been preparing for Christmas and generally relaxing. The bedroom is finnally finished and the furnature removed from the living room and returned to the bedroom.   The Missus is very pleased with the results.

So I take this time to reflect on the past year and rejoyce in all that has been brought my way. I rejoyce in a wife who is now healthy and returning to "our" life. I give thanks for two sons who had the courage to join the military and serve and for a daughter who just plain brings me joy.

To one and all a Merry Christmas and may God bless you and yours as much as He has blessed me.

The Sky is falling!!!!

OK, this is the weather headline on MSN:

Major storm brings snow, misery to Northeast

‘Doozy of a snowstorm’ could bring up to a foot of snow to New England

What wimp decided that 8" to 12" of snow was a "Doozy"?  4 foot of snow is a "doozy" of a snow storm. Not an unusual "doozy" but still... NYC got 2 to 4 inches of snow...and??  The best part of the report(?) is that it talkes about the mid-west and south west, not the northeast. Apparently there were a few unfortunate accidents out that-a-way from this storm. I really wish that these news agencies would use more restraint in thier headlines and not sensationalistic BS. This was not a bad storm. Yes, as in all inclement weather caution is needed, but it was not the end of the world.

Enjoy the snow and have a Merry Christmas!

I'm Tired....from LTC in the 101

December 07
101st Airborne
I'm tired of spineless politicians, both Democrat and
Republican who lack the
courage, fortitude, and character to see these
difficult tasks through.

I'm tired of the hypocrisy of politicians who want to
rewrite history when the
going gets tough.

I'm tired of the disingenuous clamor from those that
claim they 'Support the
Troops' by wanting them to 'Cut and Run' before
victory is achieved.

I'm tired of a mainstream media that can only focus on
car bombs and casualty
reports because they are too afraid to leave the
safety of their hotels to
report on the courage and success our brave men and
women are having on the
battlefield.

I'm tired that so many American's think you can
rebuild a dictatorship into a
democracy over night.

I'm tired that so many ignore the bravery of the Iraqi
people to go to the
voting booth and freely elect a Constitution and soon
a permanent Parliament.

I'm tired of the so called 'Elite Left' that prolongs
this war by giving aid and
comfort to our enemy, just as they did during the
Vietnam War.

I'm tired of anti-war protesters showing up at the
funerals of our fallen
soldiers. A family who's loved ones gave their life in
a just and noble cause,
only to be cruelly tormented on the funeral day by
cowardly protesters is beyond
shameful.

I'm tired that my generation, the Baby Boom - Vietnam
generation, who have such
a weak backbone that they can't stomach seeing the
difficult tasks through to
victory.

I'm tired that some are more concerned about the
treatment of captives then they
are the slaughter and beheading of our citizens and
allies.

I'm tired that when we find mass graves it is seldom
reported by the press, but
mistreat a prisoner and it is front page news.

Mostly, I'm tired that the people of this great nation
didn't learn from history
that there is no substitute for Victory.

Sincerely,
Joe Repya
Lieutenant Colonel
U. S. Army
101st Airborne Division

DNC Chair...

Ok, someone has to explaine to me why the Liberals/Democrats hate the USA so much.  Now Dean is talking shit about we can't win in Iraq, comparing it to Vietnam. Well, there is one similarity, the Democratic Party is NOT trying to win this and bring freedom to another people, they are doing everything short of armed rebellion to make sure lots of American kids die for the DNC to win an election based on ...LIES.  Oh, yeah! Isn't that what they say Bush did? Gee it would not be that they are more interested in Political BS and "looks" then in truth could it?  Take all these politicians and flush 'em. Can't stand it.

Heres an idea. Get behind the effort and learn a little about what is happening in Iraq, Egypt, Afganastan, Syria and all over the Mid-East.  We can win this, we are winning this but your blathering gives aid and comfort to our enemies in this. Just like you did during Vietnam, the Democratic Party is supporting the people killing American Fighting men and woman. Makes ya wonder, doesn't it.

To all those who truly support the USA, get in there and clean up the mess. I know a lot of folks who call them selfs Democrats but have nothing in common with the DNC which has been taken over by the LLL.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Tom
